GH1933 Herbal Acid Shampoo & Silky Snail Hair Treatment

_MG_2392_copyCompany About:

GH1933 is a Korean based brand created by a Korean Hairstylist Gunheenim.

The brand name is named after the first Korean beauty store that opened in 1933 & GH stand for its Gilt & Heritage. GH1933 aims to bring a clean & simple line, but with powerful ingredients using science and natural botanical extracts.

Product About:

Herbal Acid Shampoo is designed to give hair volume, shine and smooth out frizziness while giving nutrition. The shampoo is pH balanced with a pH5.0, helping to keep scalp health. Infused with 9 herbal extract and 15 amino acids, which helps the hair damage from over styling. Great for dry, frizzy, rough, weak hair & alkaline sensitive scalp

Silky snail hair treatment is back full of ingredients like snail mucus and botanical oils to moisturize and strengthen damaged hair. Designed to restore balance to damaged hair. Formulated with jojoba oil, macadamia seed oil, lavender water and wheat protein.

Why Scalp pH balance?: Anything between 0 and 6.9 is acidic, 7 is neutral, and anything between 7.1 and 14 is alkaline. Human hair and scalp oil, sebum, has a pH balance of between 4.5 and 5.5. This natural hair acidity prevents fungi and bacteria in the hair and scalp, and keeps the cuticle closed and healthy.

Testing Period:

I purchased this from 0.8L app Try now campaign for 3.99 and have been testing this for 2-3 weeks now. I use it every other night when I shower. I use both shampoo & treatment as well as their matching serum, which I have already reviewed in the past. You can read it here.

Packaging:

The shampoo & treatment come in similar boxes, that have a velvety box with a clean minimal design. With the only difference of color tab on top to indicate which step each product is in. The Shampoo is in Step 1 cleanse, the treatment is Step 2 repair and so on.
Surprising there is English on the outer side of the box, you wouldn’t know it was Korean until you go to break the boxes and see the Korean description listed inside the box or the Made in Korea label outside.

The shampoo comes in a similar bottle that houses 300ml of products and comes with a click top or a push-down pump. Which is really useful if you choose to travel with it or not. The pump allows for the precise use of the product. The treatment comes in a handy squeeze tube that stands up, letting the product flow down, the hole size is perfect for the texture of the treatment and I have no trouble squeeze product out.

Scent/Color/Texture:

The scent of the complete line is called “Verbena Whisper – warm & cozy” has top notes of Verbena, middle: Heliotrope/Anise, base: Vetiver. When I think of verbena I always think of l’occitane’s lemon verbena, which is this bright fresh scent that can be used by men and women. This line, however, is sweeter and spicier. They describe it as a deep, rich aroma of woody, warm and fresh. To me, it smells warm, spicy and sweet with a hint of earthy herbal. I wouldn’t call this a girly scent, more a gender-neutral to bit more masculine scent. I personally love this scent so much. It feels very warm and inviting. The verbena is not the big player here but you can smell hints of it, the overall scent isn’t as fresh, citrusy as you would think.

The color of the shampoo is a clear yellow that looks very botanical base, it’s a bit runny but thick like most shampoos. It lathers okay, but I found that I had two 2-3 pumps to get to where I like in foaminess and cleaning level. First 3 times I used this shampoo my hair felt really dry because I was using only 1-2 pumps and this also cause a lot of friction in my hair, which causes me to lose a lot of hair. I was so scared that I thought it was the formula because it’s acid base. Maybe it was my hair and scalp adjusting the fourmla? but after the 3-4 times though, I used twice the amount and my hair lose lessen and my hair quality felt stronger with more use. I don’t have as much hair loss now, but before this shampoo, I wasn’t seen a lot of hair loss.

The treatment is a white slimy gel cream. It’s very bouncy just like how most snail based products are. The texture is not like your average conditioner or treatment, where they are bit creamy or whipped greasy. The snail treatment has more of a slimy gel is texture, which doesn’t make the hair too smooth, but enough to run a comb through. Definitely didn’t get that foaminess when washing out. Again, I felt I had to use more (about a plum size amount) to get the hair coated.

Finish/Wear:

Like I said the beginning my hair didn’t seem to like the shampoo and the treatment didn’t seem to do much, I was actually loosing hair and I was freaking out a bit. but with routine use, my hair texture improved. I have over processed bleach hair that is also colored, so my hair texture is very airy light and frizzy. After two weeks this shampoo line seems to give it back some body, texture and decrease the frizz. It hasn’t completely changed my hair back to normal but I don’t expect that since my hair is so damaged. My scalp health seems better too, I normally get super itchy after a 1 day of not washing, but I notice with this line I can wash every other night. My hair isn’t as oily and greasy as before. Also, it did strap a bit my hair color out, but nothing too crazy.

Repurchase:

Maybe, The price is way over what I normally pay. I usually buy Japanese brand shampoo set that is $20 for 2 huge bottles. However, I do like the scent a lot, but still feel that I’m using a lot of product to get to where I need it to see the result that I don’t think it will be worth in the long run. However, if you compare the better natural/botanical ingredients and the long-term health of your hair, this shampoo set might be something to try and see if it works for you. For me, it gave me okay results, nothing I was amazed about and like I said, I just really love the scent.
